how to stream media in firefox with .asx extension

hi i have firefox and i normally stream media fine. I have mozzplugger installed. However i wanted to listen to a band's single that is streaming and the file extension at the end of the url is .asx. Im not familar with .asx - i think i have heard of it before but don't remember quite exactly what it is. How would i go about streaming it? Here is the url that i've been trying. http://www.warnerreprise.com/asx/dis...cken_128-a.asx

thanks for any replies in advance.

First off, happy birthday dr_zayus69. .asx is an extension used for windows media player streaming media. Depending on the exact underlying format, vlc or mplayer may be able to handle this stream.

thanks. the file format i've chosen was windows media player. I tried the quicktime which is .mov and that does not work either. I've been able to play music when it uses an embedded player on sites like allowing you to pause and go to next track before. And i've played windows media video clips before in the browser so i don't know why it doesn't work for this.

Very odd, unless they're encoded with some WMP-DRM stuff.

Error msgs kplayer gives when trying to play the link in OP.

It won't load in IE6/wmp using Crossover Office either. It just sits there connecting forever.

There are only a couple of sites I have not been able to use Firefox, and those are CNN and Launch.com. It is usually just a matter of choosing the correct media player or mplayerplug-in loading. Sites like NPR, BBC, Shoutcast, Virgin Radio all work great.

asx

asx is a playlist format like m3u, pls. It's a windows media format and is often used as playlist for radio stations. load a station from wmp's radio section and more often than not first an asx is looked up and then (depending on station's configuration) your now playing gets populated by whats in store for the hour.
