mdadm issue about mounted sub-mirror

I am using fedora7 to create raid1. but I got /dev/sda1 busy because it is mounted on /. I know I need to umount it so that I must reboot system once. In solaris case, we have metainit -f option to create sub-mirror on mounted disk slice. I wonder whether linux mdadm has the option also.

[root@fedora7 ~]# mdadm -C /dev/md0 -l 1 -n 2 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1
mdadm: Cannot open /dev/sda1: Device or resource busy
mdadm: /dev/sdb1 appears to contain an ext2fs file system
size=8193116K mtime=Wed Jan 23 07:35:29 2008
mdadm: create aborted

Thank you

Hi,

I tried to create md4 device with raid level1 as follows.

/dev/sda3 and /dev/sdb3 has 0xfd partition id.

# mdadm -Cv /dev/md4 -l 1 -n 2 /dev/sda3 /dev/sdb3
# more /proc/mdstat

After /proc/mdstat told me that resync is done, i reboot system but md4 is gone after system booting up. cat /proc/mdstat shows nothing. Any idea? Kernel issue?

Humm..Then I think you must try adding the entries for RAID in mdadm.conf. This will create the devices on boot. Also make sure u have prior modules in initrd.
