Question Maya render on linux platform...

I'm interested in embarking on enabling each of my linux boxen (primarily Slackware 9.1 machines with 2.4.26 kernel) to be able to render my Maya projects. I was wondering if anyone out there has had any real world experience rendering on a Linux box, and if they'd be willing to share some info or experience with me!

I'll populate this thread with tidbits as I discover them as well.
