It's a question of selecting the right tool for a job. It is possible to work on HTML/XML files with sed/awk but the solutions are rarely easy and almost never elegant. Awk excels at column-based text files. Sed processes lines of text. If you work on html files often, you might want to use the tools that were created specifically to do this kind of job. You'll do your job quicker.

For example, using Python's BeautifulSoup you can kill 2 birds with one stone - scrap a website's code and parse it.
