May i know how VMware works?

im thinking of installing VMware, but not really sure how it works, can i use VMware to boot my Linux(which already installed on other drive) under window platform ?

or i have to install linux into VMware directory, which is located in window drive?

Once you install vmware you have to install Linux in it. Vmware acts like a simulated computer inside of the OS you're running it in. Think of it as a computer inside of another. When you turn it on there is nothing there, an empty computer and a blank hard drive, you have to install an OS to make it work.

Maybe it would be possible, Vmware allows u to use a real physical hard drive as a virtual hard drive for your virtual machine - BUT I havent tried it bc I think it can be risky.

EDIT: Anyway If u were successfull with booting your existing linux in Vmware u would have to reconfigure it to use virtual hardware
