Making Addressbook with OpenOffice

Hello Everybody,
I hope someone can help me setting up an addressbook for home addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail address etc. with OpenOffice. On my pentium4 desktop, I have got 2 harddisks and SUSE Linux 10.0, which does include a recent version of OO. The last 3 weeks, I have been trying to setup an address list of friends and family. After opening the database section of the program and using the assistant, I thought I had succeded, but could not save the base with " save as", because it wasn't in the menu.
I see myself as a relative newbie, even if my first distribution was SUSE 6.2. But even on my old Amiga, back in 1988, I could make a beautiful addresslist. So I feel very frustrated now. (Also with MS " Works" I did not succeeed)
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
Piet Hein.

Welcome to LQ!
I have (briefly) played with the Openoffice database, but found it very difficult to use.
I can thoroughly recommend mysql, which is an awesome database engine (I am an absolute beginner with it though!). An addressbook database should be easy to set up. Give it a try. There are howto's on the web, browser-based front ends, and the magazine "Linux Format" is currently running a series of tutorials on mysql. Have fun.
