Mail server spam & virus checking howto

I've installed a mail server using Postfix and Cyrus imapd. It is working like it should, only it is not doing any spam or virus checking. I've searched the net for software to do this and it seems the best option is to go with amavisd-new, ClamAV and SpamAssassin.

Now I need some help to set it all up. Google turns up many documents that will show me the commands to use on a particular setup, but none of them help me understand exactly what goes where and why. Also there seems to be a rather big difference in installation & setup for varying distributions, making the command lists even less helpful. Does anyone know of a more informative "noob-friendly" document to help me set up amavis, clam and spamassassin?
