Lost Keyboard and Mouse with GNOME/KDE
Hi,
I have an Aptiva 2159 with 96 MB RAM, 20GB and 3.6 GB HD. I did remove the "mwave" card and installed a ES1868 sound card. I downloaded ISO images for RedHat 7.2.
I partitioned the system as follows:
/dev/hda1 - Windows Me - 6.0 GB
/dev/hda2 - ext3 - 50MB - /boot
/dev/hda3 - ext3 - 12.5 GB - /
/dev/hdb1 - ext3 - 128 MB - swap
I also enabled USB so I could install Quickcam Express. It works fine with Windoze.
After I installed RedHat, the install went well and I booted up Linux. At startup time kudzu started and indicated that Generic Mouse PS/2 had been removed. That was a BIG surprise, so I just said do nothing. Then ES1868 card was detected and I said Configure.
I went into text mode and poked around to make sure things were ok. Then I started X to start GNOME. I got the GNOME login and the login screen came up. I logged in and lost my mouse!
So I took the Windoze way, I promptly rebooted.
This time when I went to GNOME, I lost both Keyboard and Mouse.
I have tried to disable USB, I have tried to use KDE instead of GNOME, but as soon as the window manager loads, I lose my keyboard and mouse. There is no response to CTRL-ALT-DEL or trying to get to console 1 with ALT F1. The system is dead!
Any help will be greatly aprreciated! I did find lots of problems with frozen keyboard and mouse, but no answers or suggestions. Any ideas?
Regards
Raja
