Lost files?

Ok this is a really strange problem but I need to get it fixed. Yesterday I mounted my windows NTFS partition (D: 120GB) and I shared it using samba, on my other Windows machine I stored about 5gb on it.

This morning I accessed samba and browsed the mounted (D again the files are gone! However I did a disk check D: was 0% used, C: was 1.5 (windows installation) and my Linux partition however, was 9GB out of 20gb. So i'm thinking the files I put there has gone into my linux partition. But I can't find it anywhere.. can someone help please

----edit---

Sorry I'm such a newbie, I just realised you can't write to NTFS..but so where is my files I transferred on anyway? I tried using find but nothing shows up..

Try this instead. Su to root, then run updatedb to update the locate database, with the windows partition mounted. When updatedb completes, open a term window and run 'locate <filename>', where <filename> is a file which you tried to store. If it's anywhere on your computer, locate will show you where it went. It the return is larger than one screenfull, try running the command piped through less, 'locate < filename> | less'.

PS. Afterward, if you don't want all the windows files in the locate database, just unmount the windows partition, and run updatedb once more to re-write the locate database without windows info.
