Looking for blogging software - WordPress vs Moveable Type?

Hi guys. I'm looking setting up a blog server for internal use only at this stage.

I have tried doing a bit of googling, but seem to get a kazillion hits on "blogging software" and the likes, and somewhat fewer hits either here or on sourceforge.

Anyway, I get the feeling that two of the bigger players in this field are WordPress and Moveable Type (open source). Are there others I should look at, are these ones OK, etc. I think I prefer the idea of a postgres backend (MT?)

I don't know a lot about blogging, so I'm after good general purpose but not too heavy.

Thoughts welcome.

Rgds

Hi Bill,
Have you looked at Joomla and Drupal?
They are for site content management rather than just blogging. I have not used either but I am thinking about it. My impression is that the bare basics might be light, and then they are 'infinitely' extensible with extras: you can develop a big forum or a directory site or whatever you want (they say). All open source.

I originally choose Wordpress over Movable Type because people suggested it could be used for content management on a site, beyond just the blog aspect.
Seems to me, after looking into it, that I would actually be fighting it to do that. However, for a blog it was very easy and friendly.

I was browsing this forum looking for info on content management options when I noticed your post. Have to admit I am a bit scared of Joomla and Drupal because it seems like jumping in the deep end.

Just saw this related link at the bottom of the page: evaluation of Wordpress vs Drupal. Think I had better go and read all about it.

Good luck.
