Exclamation

I am installing Mandrake 8.0 using the bootable CD. When I get to the 'Install Filesystems' step I receive an error - missing basesystem package. It then takes me to the previous step, Format Partitions. No matter what I do, I always end up with the same error.

I am installing onto a frankenstiened PC. I checked the hardware list and I think everything it has is supported.

Any ideas? I am a newbie to Linux, though I have used HP-UX and Solaris at work.

Thx,
Sean

did you buy the cd or burn your own. i know there were some intial problems with some bad .iso files that were available when it first came out. You may want to try downloading them and burning them again.

Another Error, I forgot to mention

I forgot to mention that I am receiving an error when DrakX is initializing. Just after it starts to read from the CD, I get an error - cannot uncompress secondary ramdisk. It says to hit enter to continue, which I do and it does.

When I downloaded the ISO, I used md5 to check it. So, I know my image is good.

i actually think the .iso images are bad, not just the downloads. the checksum would still be ok. there are multiple post at http://groups.google.com/groups?oi=d...linux.mandrake with the same problem. you may want to try again.

I get the same Missing basesystem package error. I checked my md5 sum 043ea0b220833fa209920ac0d2d0bd41 and it matches checked other mirrors and they all seem to have the same md5 sum. I was wondering if the above check some matches anyone iso that has successfully burnt the cd and completed the install
