If it helps, I use the Mint USB too, both in live mode and in persistent mode on my 4gig stick. But I have _never_ installed it per se.

The procedure of how I did it is http://www.linuxquestions.org/blog/h...ent-usb.-1455/

All the things you installed during persistent are retained when you get into that mode. By default it will boot into live mode.

Works like a charm.

The TAB key did nothing. I typed in:
cd media
ls STORE => I hit TAB

I also tried typing in:
find /media/STORE\ N\ GO/ -name casper-rw
This is what I got:
/media/STORE N GO/casper-rw

If you're not comfortable with \ and I agree its a bit confusing, always try in " " for files/dirs with space in their names, that works too.

as in, find /media/"STORE N GO"/ -name casper-rw

Quote:
/media/STORE N GO/casper-rw
So it is on the USB

BTW, why do you need this?
If you browse the USB, you can see it to.

On page 2 of this topic you will see why. I am stuck on copying and pasting the new casper-rw (persistant) to overwrite the old one. But I don't know which one is new and which one is old. I'm getting lost myself. I feel like I keep going around in circles. Like for every step I get stuck on I have to go through 10 more to get back to that one to see if it will work.

So to answer your question I guess look on page 2 because it's too much type.

Hey candebill,
your "persistent" about this Mint USB, huh?
seriously, that's a good thing.

I'm downloading Mint now, and gonna put it on my USB and see what's up.

Now, did you name the casper-rw, or you named the mountpoint
Store N GO?
Or you labeled the USB?

I never make names that are seperated, Linux has a hard time seeing them.

like I would've named it STORE-N-GO, is that what you did?
don't worry, we'll get it going

Yes I'm trying really hard. I am very "persistant" about this. I don't want to quit now since I have learned so much and really enjoy what I know about Linux. I have no idea why Linux isn't more widely used. Whenever I buy new computers, linux will be the operating program.

To answer your questions, if I understood them correctly, I tried searching for the STORE N GO casper file in a number of options.
I am so lost now I don't even know where I am. Haha.

Basically where I left off is this. I wanted to make a new, larger persistant file on my flashdrive using the terminal, booted from the cd. Well the file was made, but I have no idea where. I need to copy that new casper file that was made with 2048, and overwrite the old one. But like I said I don't know where the file was created. And since I boot from a disc everytime and the changes aren't saved, I will probably have to go through the entire process again...I assume.

So, your booting off CD, not USB?
your saving to the casper-rw on usb from cd?

Or, your booting off usb?
you made the USB with Mint CD USB-creator or what?

OK, first, was the USB mounted when you tried to copy to USB?

How did you do it thru terminal?
I'm assuming Mint told you to do that?

Also, did you use FileBrowser to look for the missing casper-rw?

My download of Mint7 will be done soon and I can help more.

Now you are seeing where I am. I am booting from cd to make the USB casper bigger than 1024 in the terminal. It creates it and I need to copy and paste the new casper to the flashdrive overwriting the older one, but I have no idea where it was created. So this is where I am now. If I can find the new (2048) casper file I can overwrite the old one on the USB.

Can you output anything the terminal says when it makes the casper-rw?

Have a look in /tmp, it may be there somewhere...
so, your trying to make a 2GB casper-rw on a 2gb stick or 4gb?

Oh gosh. Well I can write down what it says when I create the new casper. I have it saved as text somewhere. Let me see if I can find it.

It is a 4G. Where is /tmp?

/tmp is in / or root

in terminal, as root, enter
ls /tmp

that will display the contents of /tmp

if you use filebrowser, just keep hitting "up" arrow and you'll get to /, which is root
of filesystem.

Here is pic of /

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...38#post3604638

that is the un-compress PMagic filesystem on my usb
you can see where /tmp is there
note, the up arrow in filebroswer, go up till you can't go up anymore and your at root
of filesystem

This is the file that was created in the terminal. Now I need to find out where it was created.

mke2fs 1.41.3 (12-Oct-2008)
Filesystem label=
OS type: Linux
Block size=2048 (log=0)
Fragment size=2048 (log=0)
41160 inodes, 164648 blocks
8223 blocks (5.00%) reserved for the super user
First data block=1
Maximum filesystem blocks=67371008
21 block groups
8192 blocks per group, 8192 fragments per group
1960 inodes per group
Superblock backups stored on blocks:
8193, 24577, 40961, 57345, 73729
Writing inode tables: done
Creating journal (4096 blocks): done
Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done

This filesystem will be automatically checked every 25 mounts or
180 days, whichever comes first. Use tune2fs -c or -i to override.

I typed this in terminal ls /tmp and I got this:
keyring-MLTqbd orbit-mint seahorse-cm4x9d virtual-mint.17TYUs
mintupdate pulse-mint ssh-qAklhJ7159

I tried to search for the file in the file browser and I couldn't find it.

If you don't know where you are in the filesystem the command pwd will tell you
So, open a terminal, and try it, and tell us what it says.
Then do ls cas* (that's "Ell-s")
What output do you see?
