I'm running Win 7 64 bit.

Just burned Cinnamon iso by right clicking iso and 'burn disc image', there are 10 files but I can't get the disc to boot.

The last time I installed Linux it booted over the top of XP..... have I done something wrong?

There doesn't appear to no auto run, mind you, I haven't tried installing on a blank hard drive as yet, thanks.

Maybe you should explain.
The iso will incorporate a bootloader - are you perhaps talking about the boot device selection screen in the firmware ?.

Did you check the BIOS to make sure that booting from CD has priority over booting from harddive?

Depending on the BIOS, the menus may vary in appearance.

I've not tried booting and installing yet, I am aware the boot sequence needs to be configured.... as I remember the last one I did it booted over the top of windows XP and win 7.

When creating disc image with Win 7 it does not make the disc 'bootable'. As syg00 stated 'I too' would have expected the iso make the CD/DVD bootable.

I first used Win 7 by right clicking the iso this give me 10 files, then I tried Rufus it came up saying I needed to download two other files or something, this also give me 10 files on the installation disc so I tried Unetbootin this give me 16 files.

Sooo, when I get time I'll lob a spare drive in and give the disc a whirl, what caused the confusion is I remembered Linux booting over the top of a windows XP and Win7, I think this is what you call 'live boot' isn't it?

I was hoping to install Linux on a friends computer in place of Win 10 when I get it which he is forever having problems with, any problems I'll buy a install stick or disc.

Just for info, the Mint instructions recommend Etcher to create the bootable medium.
