limewire on linux

hi all. I am a complete newbie when it comes to linux. As most are, I am familiar with windows and am not certain how to download stuff on linux.

I am currently trying to download limewire, and I have successfully gotten the file on my Eee PC computer, however I do not know how to go through the installation process. Judging by reading other posts, command posts are needed to be made. Can someone help me out?

Needs more info

Your post lacks some needed information. What disto and version are you using? Limewire depends on Java, do you have that installed? Is the file you downloaded a tarball, a RPM or a deb file?

Here's a forum post that details the install process for Ubuntu/Debian. The Gnutella Forums probably have a detailed how-to for installing on your particular disto. The program might even be in the repositories, which is a much simpler method of installing software on Linux.

I believe I seen LimeWire in the Portage tree of my Gentoo install so I can only imagine it has been developed for Ubuntu and the like as well.

As previously noted, we need additional information. I'm not sure exactly what you've done, or how you downloaded the Limewire file. I use Limewire, myself... when I installed it from the Limewire website (it was not in my repositories), I simply selected the Linux version, and the install ran automatically, including adding dependencies. My only guess is that you selected "save to disk" (browser query) instead of running the installer.

Cheers
