Angry Trying to install LimeWire for linux

Ok guys get ready because I am brand new to linux and this is probably the dumbest question (well I actually have a couple) you've ever had but bare with me I am making an attempt at going toward the light. I am using RedHat V. 9

I am very new to linux and I am trying to install LimeWire. First time I installed it I didn't have JRE installed so it bombed out. I went back and tried installing JRE on my user account and LimeWire still couldn't find the JRE (it also couldn't find something called Libxss.so.1). I tried re-installing everything under the root account and that still didn't work I got the same error. Anyone else have this problem please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Also I have an ATI T.V. wonder capture card and I can't seem to find any third party firmware that will allow me to access it in Linux. Anyone have any ideas????

Thanks in advance

Jackie

I'm not sure if this is the same problem but if your trying to install it with an RPM then just ignore the error, i had to do that with suse 9.1 and limewire works fine.

you can obtain the flgx driver from ati's website. also, MythTV is a great suite that does video capturing via cable/hdtv, but all in wonder cards are not supported. you may be able to find a video capture tool-set if you post on the MythTV boards. i do not know of any, but if you are willing to shell out a few bucks, purchase the pcHDTV card (tv tuner card). you can get those from www.pcHDTV.com . it is recommended to purchase a Nvidia nForce 3 for video acceleration, but the ati card may work just fine.

did you install JRE via RPM or source?

which version of limewire are you attempting to install, and what are the error messages that you are receiving when installing?

Wow thanks for the great advice I'll have to check it out and maybe I can get my card running

I am installing the rpm version of LimeWire 4.8 and I am getting this error

[root@localhost root]# rpm -i LimeWireLinux.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
j2re >= 1.4.1 is needed by LimeWire-free-4.8.1-0
libXss.so.1 is needed by LimeWire-free-4.8.1-0

I can't figure it out because java is installed and configured

[root@localhost root]# java -version
java version "1.4.2_08"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environent, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_08-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_08-b03, mixed mode)

I tried installing it through a binary I found and a user file was extraced into my root directory (should it be in the original usr directory?) any way when I go to the bin file and try to run it I get

<<Update>>>
I was right moved files and now it seems to be working properly
[root@localhost root]# cd usr
[root@localhost usr]# cd bin
[root@localhost bin]# ls
limewire
[root@localhost bin]# sh limewire
Warning: $JAVA_HOME environment variable not set! Consider setting it.
Attempting to locate java...
Found a virtual machine at: /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_08/bin/java...
limewire: line 43: cd: /usr/share/limewire: No such file or directory
Unable to access jarfile /usr/share/limewire/LimeWire.jar
[root@localhost bin]#

Also if there is a better p2p client for linux I'm open to trying that
