Lilo boots sproradically

After loading Xandros OCE and rebooting Lilo appears and gives me a choice between Windows and Linux just as its supposed to. No matter how many times I shuttle between the two operating systems during a session Lilo appeares on cue. Here's where the problem is: after shutting down the computer overnight and booting up in the AM for three days running all I that I see is the letter "L" followed by a pageful of the numeral "9." Can anyone give me theory why Lilo will boot after a short shutdown/reboot but not after 8 hours +? Oh yeah, I get back into both systems only by reloading Xandros which takes about 20 minutes and each time Lilo appears again for a day's session only to somehow become corrupted overnight. Does anyone have an idea of the reason for what for me is a mystery? Thanks for any help you can give me.

My bet would be on a dying hard drive. Maybe it is acting buggy after a long sleep because it needs to "warm up" first? You can try backing up any needed files and run an extensive disk repair utility to see if that can solve the problem. I don't know any off the top of my head but I'm sure you can find some on google. Make sure you get one that claims to actually restructure the disk to it's factory settings.

regards,

Thanks for the input. The hard drive tested ok. I wound up reformatting and restoring Windows to its previous state with True Image so no harm done. I'll reload Linux later this week and am interested in seeing if the Lilo problem reappears. Best Regards.
