I want to install licq on KDE (RH ver8.0). However, I am not able to run the command "make install" as suggested on the installation manual on the terminal. Problem is that I am not the root. I recognise this problem and log in as root again. This time, I can only access GNome instead of KDE. The terminal in GNome does not allow me to go to my "Home" directory. As such, I can not run the command "make install" in one of the directory that resides in "Home". Anyone has any idea what is gonig on and what should I do? Can a "root" user chooses KDE instead of GNome? If possible, how would that be done? Thanx

just become root inside a terminal using "su" then run "make install" as for your other query, you are doing something wrong. you can *always* access your home directory.
