I think you've got Linux printing a little confused.
First, CUPS is a program.
Here is a guide to setting up printing in Suse:

If you are using a local printer connected to your desktop setting up printing using a newer printer isn't hard.
There are nice graphical interfaces that will help you, usually under System Admin tools.
