Last day of week or month in crontab

Often I have seen questions here about scheduling a cron job for the last day of the week or the last day of the month.

According to this source:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cron#Format
this can easily be specified by using 'L' in the day or month field.

...unless your cron daemon doesn't support that but instead allows for "@weekly" or "@monthly". // Off the 0-reply list now.
