Knoppix Live DVD 5.1.1 hangs with Toshiba Laptop

Me and my friend , we have downloaded knoppix DVD 5.1.1 on two different PCs (i.e. we have two different DVD copies, they have got right MD), and on two different times, he told DVD is working fine on his Desktop PC, but when I used these two DVD on my Toshiba Laptop Satellite A100-785, it hangs on :

Excuting /etc/init.d / x session start:

Sarting single-X-window session for User knoppix.
Please stand by a few second while the optimal configuration is being determined
After this session terminates, the system will automatically shut down

probing/loading AGP modules---
If I hit enter the below prompt is presented "

root!tty1:/#

And when I typed in : startx,,,,The process of booting continues till the end.

Is this what suppose to be ?

it sounds like knoppix can not handle your graphics in the default resolution or the card itself....in which case check out these cheat codes.

knoppix allows you to enter different cheat codes on each boot...but it may take you a few reboots to find one that gives the best graphics

http://www.kernel.org/pub/dist/knopp...cheatcodes.txt

knowing what onboard graphics your laptop uses will make a difference see these as starting points

knoppix xserver=XFree86|XF86_SVGA Use specified X-Server
knoppix xmodule=ati|fbdev|i810|mga Use specified XFree4-Module (1)
knoppix xmodule=nv|radeon|savage|s3 Use specified XFree4-Module (2)
knoppix xmodule=radeon|svga|i810 Use specified XFree4-Module (3)

ok for future ref your video chipset translates as Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller ... http://intellinuxgraphics.org/documentation.html

knoppix xmodule=ati|fbdev|i810|mga ....| means or so try

knoppix xmodule=i810

if that fails then try

knoppix xmodule=svga
