kernel upgrade

hello,
running under Red Hat 7.1 install, and I want to upgrade my kernel, to fix the bugs. . I've downloaded the rpms, but I don't know how to install'em. sbd told me :
rpm -Uvh [kernel......i586.rpm]
then upgrade libs
then make kernel image
modify lilo.conf

I think I forgot a step,

I am not totally familure with RedHat but you do need to make sure to run lilo after you edit lilo.conf.

I can't even count the number of times I have done a kernel re-compile, gone through and made all the changes to config files, then rebooted only to realize I never ran lilo so it never updated the actually boot loader....
