Hi, don't get me wrong I am a very experienced computer technician, but there are a few things in the computing world I am not so clued up on, one of them is networking, but in this case it is Linux. I have been running Red Hat 9 for about a year now, for my university work. Ok here we go...
I have downloaded the latest kernel release which I believe is 2.4-20-31.9, I have tried everything in my power to get it to load this updated kernel, but it insists on loading my old 2.4.20-8 kernel instead. I know why this is so, it is because of my boot CD. I know all I have to do is create another boot CD, but it is not going to plan. I have tried:
mkbootdisk --device /dev/fd0 '2.4-20-31.9'...
with conventional floppy and before it starting loading vmlinuz it came up with errors. I cannot remember what they were. Whenever i try to make a boot CD it says "size of boot image is 4 sectors --> no emulation" - well this means nothing to me. I preferably want Linux to load from my CD as it is quicker, can anyone help? I have a dvd rom in primary and a cd writer in seconday. I didn't think it would take me three hours somehow (and still not get anywhere), but I cannot waste anymore time over this in case I f*** it up, so I am hoping somebody will put me out of misery!
Thanking you in advance,
John
