ok i installed RH9 about 2 months ago and i have been reading about people updating their kernels. I have the 2.4.20-6 kernel and i was wondering if i should update it and what benifits would i get from updating it.

You probably don't need to. I updated because I needed an acpi feature that wasn't in the old one.

If all your hardware works leave it alone.

Usually people compile a new kernel for one of two reasons:
To add functionality lacking in an earlier kernel. (SATA support, for example)
Or just for fun...try something different like running a super-secure patched kernel.

With redhat, I wouldn't bother. When new kernel comes along you'll recieve notice via the red hat update agent, and it'll be taken care of for you.
