I'm about to install slackware 10.0 on one of my computers and I was just wondering, what are some oppinnions of KDE, Gnome, or any other xwindows?
Normally I run KDE because I think it looks the nicest. But i'm wondering if perhaps it runs very slow. It seems to lag sometimes but i don't have to much experience with anythign else.
Any Ideas, comments or suggestions?
Thanks
Seth
I usually use fluxbox or blackbox, since I don't want my GUI to get in the way of doing stuff, and they're very quick and responsive. KDE is definitely nice-looking; if you like the look of KDE but don't need all the features, I'd suggest XFCE4, which is fairly lightweight but much nicer on the eyes than flux/blackbox.
I'm using IceWM and I like it very much. You can configure a lot and it doesn't come with all those useless programs. It's a lot faster than KDE and Gnome
quite possibly you eject back to the console (usually ctrl-alt-backspace) and check your .xsession, or maybe its .session file
I believe they contain the answers you seek. I could be wrong tho...
The only thing KDE has going for it, is the fact that it looks nicer straight out of the box. With some effort you can make Gnome look alot better than KDE ever could and not to mention Gnome runs faster and is more functional.
