How do I change the permissions of cdrecord and cdrdao. I am getting an error while burning that these programs don't have the privilage to open device.
Do you use kde? I can tell you how to do it with kuser but I don't know what the commands are in a terminal. You need to chmod your cdrom or /dev/cdrom to 666. Also, if you have a cdrecording group, you will need to give that 666 permissions too. In Kuser, you can just edit your users and groups through a gui.
Go to Systems in your kmenu, then click on kuser. You will be asked to enter your root password. By default you will be in the users tab and you can scroll down the screen till you find your username. Click on it and then click on the edit button that is to the far left at the top. Then click on the groups tab and put a check in cdrom and cdrecording You can also put checks in whatever else you want to have rights to as a user while you're there. Then click ok button, then click the file link at the top and choose save, then exit. You will then have permission as a user to use the cdrom and the cdrecording programs on your system.
