jobs queued in cups but printer wont print

Hello!
I have installed cups on my new Gentoo system and of course, I want to be able to print. I successfully installed (or that was that I thought) my printer (HP Laserjet 2100M) and tried to print a test page. I looked in "jobs" and there it was. Great! But the thing is that the printer never started to print! I tried with printing other stuff as well but it didn't work.

I wanted to see what was going on while it was being queued so I got

I [24/Nov/2004:20:50:26 +0100] Started "/usr/lib/cups/cgi-bin/printers.cgi" (pid=20407)
I [24/Nov/2004:20:50:29 +0100] Started "/usr/lib/cups/cgi-bin/printers.cgi" (pid=20409)
I [24/Nov/2004:20:50:31 +0100] Adding start banner page "none" to job 4.
I [24/Nov/2004:20:50:31 +0100] Adding end banner page "none" to job 4.
I [24/Nov/2004:20:50:31 +0100] Job 4 queued on 'pxlmono' by 'root'.

from /var/log/cups/error_log ( that was what differed from before and after I had clicked "print test page")

"lpstat -t" gives:

scheduler is running
system default destination: pxlmono
device for pxlmono: serial:/dev/ttyS0?baud=1200+bits=8+parity=none+flow=none
pxlmono accepting requests since Jan 01 00:00
printer pxlmono now printing pxlmono-4. enabled since Jan 01 00:00
Ready to print.
pxlmono-4 root 15360 Wed Nov 24 20:50:31 2004

btw, the jobs get queued in lpq as well.

Can anybody tell me how I should do to get my printer print?

Thanks!

I've got the same problem. HP LaserJet 4200n at school. Running SuSE 9.1 with KDE 3.2.
I've actually gotten the test page to print a few times, but then this queue problem happens again. Occasionally, KNotify gives me a "Catastrophe" saying client-error-not-possible. I tried several different drivers, from PostScript to raw. I got a few pages to print in Raw, but with messed up fonts, and eventually, I get the same queued problems again.
