Jack audio and Guitarix

Hello everyone,

I try to set up Guitarix to amplify my bass-guitar, using QJackCtl to...actually I*don't know exactly why, but according to the tutorial I*found here, it looks mandatory.

Unfortunately, I got this error message as result.

Quote:
PitchTracker *** error creating realtime thread - tuner not started
Would you know what is the signification?
Do you know if Jack is mandatory to use the RealTone cable?

Are you aware of nice tutorials or softwares for beginners?

Cheers

"Do you know if Jack is mandatory to use the RealTone cable?"

No, your linux box should see it as snd_usb_audio.

Jack can be difficult to set up but once you clarify the cable is working I suggest you have another go at it.

check out the "walkthroughs" here,

a lot of confusion here.
jackaudio is a Linux audio architecture.
qjackctl is a graphical interface to control it. not strictly necessary, but believe me, you'll want to use it or some other graphical alternative.
the rest seems to be specific software i know nothing about.

good tutorials, forums etc.:

Thanks for your answers GleenPrefs and ondoho.

Yes, a lot of confusion as you say. I am not familiar with both music softwares and linux.

I will follow the jackaudio walkthroughs and take advices at linuxmusicians when I will have the time.

Cheers!

Yes, a lot of confusion, and a lot of errors!
I have tried several time to run Guitarix and Jack. As I have mentioned in another thread, I got something very suspicious for Jack (no system tab in writable clients). But I got far more errors with Guitarix:
Quote:
[12:01:52] PitchTracker *** error creating realtime thread - tuner not started

Guitarix error

D-BUS: JACK server could not be started.

Sorry

[12:23:44] main *** I really tried to get jack up and running, sorry ...
I have to say that the software apologizing for not working is very cute!
Okay, anyone had the same problem with these software?

Have you tried to start the JACK server?
are you actually using jackaudio?

Thanks for your answer Ondoho.

I*have the JACK Audio Connection Kit Qt GUI Interface, called QjackCtl.

It seems that this interface is starting the server. Am I*right?

Here are the messages that the guitarix console is giving me:

Hi, sorry I can't be of much help, it was so long ago,
I have forgotten what I had to do to make it work on my system.

One suggestion is to start the program from the command line,
just to see what text appears on screen,
it may reveal something the guitarix console is not,
perhaps the error is before guitarix, so it can't know what it is.

Another thing is to have a look at your console on ctrl+alt+F12 to see any errors there.

^ that's always sane advice.

Let me rephrase my previous question:
is jackaudio working at all on your system, regardless of guitarix?
if you want to get to the bottom of this you need to start troubleshooting properly, and one of the first steps is to isolate the problem.
have a look at some of the links in my signature.

Hello Glenspref and ondoho, thank you much for your answers.

I will not forget the advise to use command line for troubleshooting. I am going to use ondoho's tutorial links for work-based troubleshooting.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of leisure time and in total honesty, I don't enjoy at all troubleshooting software that are non-work related. Therefore I*give up on using Jack.

But your advises will be precious in a professional context. Thanks again.

jackdbus

older jack:

jackd -d alsa

or better latency (increase -p if its too much for your hardware)

jackd -d alsa -n 2 -p 64

if you hate command lines use qjackctl

newer jack:

should already be automatic on dbus, but use qjackctl to verify it, otherwise you have old jack which needs started on command line or via qjackctl

pipewire has its own jack adapter so you need to configure it through pipewire if you want to change latency settings (note they are now dynamic, so it might shift to a higher latency or stretch the audio to prevent missing audio)
