Is it healthy to ignore Gnome for KDE?

It seems to me that KDE is now THE desktop in Linux systems. But it uses a strange language called QT and is not truly GPL. If someone makes a proprietary program to run on the KDE, he/she has to pay $1500?

Gnome is not as pretty as KDE. But it is truly GPL. It can be programmed in almost any language. It too has many applications including a browser.

Isn't the Linux community better off using Gnome? Or is this not important now?

I use KDE because it looks better.....

You only have to pay for Qt if you are not releasing your program under the GPL. Why should somebody be able to use Qt to make a proprietary program, make money off that program, and not have to pay Qt for developing there excellent gui toolkit?

KDE is 100% GPL'd. As is Qt. The only thing Qt has is another license option which gives you permission to NOT distribute the code or changes. But you have to pay for this other license option.
