iptables trouble

Hello
I am new here and i need help on an iptables issue. I recently applied a l7 filter patch to the kernel and appropriate patch to iptables. But when i tried to issue the layer 7 match rules for iptables i kept getting an error. So i tried to upgrade from iptables 1.3.5 to 1.3.6. Now whenever i try to issue rules it gives me the message : iptables: match 'layer7' v1.3.5 (I'm v1.3.6). I tried to uninstall the v1.3.6 version but no luck. I want to replace iptables v1.3.6 w/ 1.3.5. Does anyone know how to uninstall iptables?
thank you

Letting someone know what distro you're using would be a good start to getting help.
