I just got WINE installed and working on my Slack 9.0 box. I seem to be able to run simple exe's and whatnot farily easily, but when I try to install an app that uses InstallShield, the installer blows up shortly after extracting the temporary files.
E.G., I was trying to load DreamweaverMX and ended up with this in the console:
governor@crapware:/home/share/downloads/wineApps$ wine Dreamweaver\ MX\ Installer.exe

fixme:win:SetWindowTextA cannot set text "InstallShield Wizard" of other process window (nil)
At this point, the installshield window closes, and I'm presented with a windows dialog box stating:
An error occurred while launching setup. (0x8000ffff)
I've attempted installing DCOM95 and keep getting an error message stating that a newer version of DCOM is already installed...but I haven't installed anything...
I'm running on a laptop with no Windows install...
When I try to install DCOM, the installer starts, I accep the license agreement, and it starts unpacking files...it then falls to a dialog stating that DCOM95 can't be installed because a newer version of DCOM has already been installed and it must be uninstalled before I can install an older version.
This, of course, is a bit perplexing because I haven't managed an install of either DCOM95 or DCOM98. I'm beginning to think that perhaps I should remove WINE and go to an older build??
yah maybe.... it wouldn't hurt to try another one....i have no idea but maybe the new package of wine might come equipt with dcom or something....just a thought.
Yeah...the thought of it being already included occurred to me...just annoying that it doesn't seem to work...oh well, I'll try an older build...probably the one that Frank's Corner recommends in the DW article.
re-state what exactly is going on with yourself in a new thread, start fresh for people will notice it
i dont' feel like re-reading this article to then have to guess what is wrong with you, and plus it will benefit you starting a thread of your own..
Well, I'm actually running the latest stable build. The problem I was running into required me to use a special flag (/c I think) when installing DCOM95.EXE before trying to install DW.
Check out www.frankscorner.org...he's got a message board as well and has tons of work-arounds and fixes for getting DCOM working w/ Wine.
Thanks also, DrOzz, for the pointer. I'll be sure to do that next time, or send a PM, so that I still catch the original poster's attention but don't set off other people's reply post notifications.
