Problem Installing Mandrake on a Gigabyte Board

Hi all,
New to linux.
I have just tried to install Mandrake 10 on my system with no luck.
I have a Gigabyte GA7 NNXP m/b which has dual bios and a barton 2700 cpu and a 1gb of ram. I have just updated the bios to the latest version as i read somewhere this needs to be done.
I can get the system to boot from cd, gets to the install screen then comes up with errors relating to the bios.
What i would like to to know can i get Mandrake to run with my board?
If it wont run what Linux version can i Use?

Any ideas please
Thanks
Oldskiddy

Hi,

I don't know Mandrake, but any chance you could note down and post the error messages? Hopefully somebody can help diagnosing the problem.

It shouldn't be the fact it's a dual BIOS motherboard - I'm typing on one now - the dual BIOS (as far as I know) is transparent to the operating system and is only used as a backup so you can reflash the primary from the secondary if you manage to kill it!

Regards,

It might not be the mobo at all..
I had the same trouble on an intel board. Booted from CD, then got a bunch'o gibberish about the bios blah blah..
In the end it was the CD of all things. Popped in another CD and it worked fine.

Maybe a bad Download or bum CD.

ps. I'm running Mandrake 10 Comm on a Gigabyte Dual-Bios board at home. No troubles..

Update,
Hi all
Sorry its been awhile, i think i got a duff download of Mandrake. Installed Susi 9.1 with no too many problems still cant get the onboard sound to work though. Its quite a steep learning curve from Windows. But i shall keep plugging away.
Thanks
Oldskiddy

Suse does look good though.
