Installing libgphoto2 update

I am running Red Hat Linux 9 with the packaged Digital Camera Tool. I am trying to update the camera library. I have gone to the Web site and downloaded libgphoto2-2.1.99 to my home directory. The update is sitting there but I do not know how to install it. (I am a bona fide newbie). Can anyboby offer any assistance?

What kind of package is it? Is it an RPM, tgz, .gz... We need more info first.

Hello Linux~Powered,
Thanks so much for your response. I have two packages sitting at home. One is libgphoto2-2.1.99.tar.gz and the other one is libgphoto2-2.1.99.tar.bz2
I do not know whether either or both should be installed. I am able to use Linux commands as long as they are at the "Dummies" level. Thanks.

You only need one of those packages. Here I wrote a guide on installing from source. Hope it helps. Or you can find an RPM and use the rpm -ivh command.
