Installing java environment on reh at ,cent os

i would like to know how to install java jre

on red hat or centos

i have a trivoli directory server setup and would like to install on cent os but it says that its not a supported platform so i downloaded red hat through torrent and would like to install
but it needs java so how to install that

ANd i heard you can disable the operating system check on that setup....
Please can anybody help me.

Java : Install the package jdk-1.6.0_31-fcs for your architecture:
32bit http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux...1-fcs.i586.rpm
64bit http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux...fcs.x86_64.rpm

Setting up the new java : 1) su
2)
/usr/sbin/alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_31/bin/java 2

3) /usr/sbin/alternatives --config java
.. And select the "sun jdk6".

dude thanks for tht i belive thats the development kit and not the jre

well anyways it must have the jre

well can you gimme the jre way

No jre available, that installs that easy, and (usually)
also configures the /etc/alternatives/ stuff.

And : It's only a few MB difference from a jre version.
( One day you may need 'javac' from the jdk version.)

honestly i dont know java but heading to learn that
i just needed that to install the software coz it needed the java applet as it has the installation gui with java
