Installing .deb files

Hey all... I'm brand new to Linux (less than a day, actually), so this question may seem a little silly. Well, here goes -

I'm installing a piece of software on my computer (using Ubuntu). I first had to learn to 'alien' the .rpm to .deb. I've used dpkg to install the software, as indicated below:

root@Laptop:/home/dkco # dpkg -i fcc_8.009-2_i386.deb
(Reading database ... 72945 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace fcc 8.009-2 (using fcc_8.009-2_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement fcc ...
Setting up fcc (8.009-2) ...
root@Laptop:/home/dkco #

As you can see, I got what seemed to be a positive response from the system (this was actually the second time I did it, hence the 'replacement'). However, I can't figure out how to actually run the program. It's not under any of the menus under 'Application', and I wouldn't know where to look for it under my root directory or Add Applications. Maybe I've just been spoiled by Windows automatically putting new programs under the Start menu. Anyhow, can anyone help me with this? How do I execute the program?

Many thanks,

DKCO

Update...

Ok... I can see it under Package Manager. But I still can't do anything with it. Also, the box in front of it is checked, so I guess it is installed.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
