installation of ns2.1b5 on ubuntu?

Hi,

I want to implement SPIN protocol and after some digging i have come to the conclusion (please let me know if i am wrong) that with the SPIN extension i have it can only be implemented on ns-2.1b5.
Would it work on ubuntu?? i already have ubuntu 10.10 in my system with ns-2.34 installed in it.
Can i get ns2.1b5 installed in it and work on SPIN ??

Thanks

The oldest version that works with a Linux OS from this century,
is ns-2.1b8. Same structure as ns2.1b5 .
Versions later than ns-2.1b8 have a very different directory tree.

CentOS 3 (obsolete) can be used for ns-2.1b8. If I remember right.
Ubuntu : No chance.
(The oldest Ubuntu versions may compile the most of ns-allinone-2.1b8.)

The most convenient solution : Rewrite the code for a later ns2.
.

Are there any other simulators which implement SPIN ??
I have been going through a lot of posts and in this link http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...379/page5.html
post #70 the member says

Quote:
I am working on SPIN protocol. I have just installed NS2.27 and ns2.34 onto my system ubuntu9.10.
Following the SPIN installation steps.
What are the steps that he is referring to?? and is he using ns2.27? Or was it just a typo there ,should have been LEACH instead of SPIN??

Thank you for your reply

Regards
