Post install .so file


How I can install a ".so" file? I want add it to my library.One program that I want to use, needs the library file.

*.so files are not usually installed individually, they are usually part of a bigger package. What program are you trying to install and what is the exact error message you are getting.

My program is "garfield-7" and my ".so" file is "libshift.so". I copied this file to my library. When I run the program the error "segmentation fault" appears. I think I should not copy the ".so" file. I should install it instead. Is it true?

You have to find the package that provides libshift.so and install that.

It would be "better" too keep all questions related to one problem (Garfield-n and libshift.so) together as much as possible. Please ask the moderator to close this thread and focus on the one you already opened for it.
