I'm a new user to linux and I'm currently running Cent OS 4.0. I downloaded an msn clone for linux and when I tried to compile from source I get these errors:
[root@00e000c0204c msn]# ./configure
bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
[root@00e000c0204c msn]# make
echo "LIB /usr/share/amsn DATA /usr/share/pixmaps BIN /usr/bin"
LIB /usr/share/amsn DATA /usr/share/pixmaps BIN /usr/bin
mkdir -p /usr/share/amsn
mkdir -p /usr/share/pixmaps
mkdir -p /etc/X11/applnk/Internet
mkdir -p /usr/bin
cat /dev/null > .uninstall.sh
ls: i: No such file or directory
ls: s: No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `i/messenger.png': No such file or directory
[root@00e000c0204c msn]# make install
echo "LIB /usr/share/amsn DATA /usr/share/pixmaps BIN /usr/bin"
LIB /usr/share/amsn DATA /usr/share/pixmaps BIN /usr/bin
mkdir -p /usr/share/amsn
mkdir -p /usr/share/pixmaps
mkdir -p /etc/X11/applnk/Internet
mkdir -p /usr/bin
cat /dev/null > .uninstall.sh
ls: i: No such file or directory
ls: s: No such file or directory
cp: cannot stat `i/messenger.png': No such file or directory
Also... I was wondering how to install the other items from the Cent OS cds I burned. I had to do a smaller install. it was unable to do a full install because there was a missing package on disk 3.
i'd recommend just installing gaim for the centos cd's. gaim is much nicer than amsn. and to install stuff from cd's, just use the redhat-configure-packages app, or mount each cd and jsut use the rpm tool to directly install them.
As long as you have qt and kdelibs installed kde apps will work in GNOME. If you have gtk libs installed gtk and gnome apps will work in kde as long as their dependencies are installed. So kopete will run in GNOME, but then if you are using GNOME, why not just use GAIM.
