inetd


i am running redhat7 which uses xinetd. I having problems with getting swat to run for samba and someone suggested i install inetd. How do you install it?

No need for inetd, just remain using xinetd.
Here is what you need to do though:
goto
/etc/xinitd.d/
edit the file
/etc/xinitd.d/swat
there will be two things to change, first a line that states

Disabled yes

to

Disabled no

then you can access swat from the local machine, using 127.0.0.1:901, or you can remove the line in the swat file that contains that ip, then access from anywhere. _MAKE_ sure to insert the line again, or disable swat, when you are done or leave a security hole!

One question about the removel and inserting the line containing the ip adres.

Do you need to restart xinetd and if yes how

I thought something with -HUP or so.

To restart xinetd do this.

/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart
