Imap on Redhat and Fedora

Hi all,

I'm currently using Redhat 9 with sendmail, apache. php, mysql etc etc as my public server.

I use pop3 at present for email delivery but would like to start using imap so i can use Squirrelmail.

On redhat 9 i go into /etc/xinetd.d and see a imap config file which is currently disabled.

Where else will i need to go within the filesystem to configure imap? I dont have a imapd.conf file in .etc which i can see. Also i imagine wherever this config file is it will allow me to specify where email is stored etc?

How can i tell which imap server i have using the CL?

I'm going to build up a new server soon using Fedora core 3. Will the process likely be the same?

Thanks!

G

It's usually as simple as "turning it on" in xinetd. If you've done something odd with your mail locations or if you want to do encryption, then you might need to do specify some options.

Do you know how i would find out which imap server i currently have on RH9?

I believe its dovecot on Fedora?

I managed to read the quick install guide on dovecot and the process looks quite simple to setup. Then i should just have to run the config script for Squirrelmail and everything should work, i already have php and apache up and running...

Graeme.
