On the contrary. I have excellent experiences with KMail. I am running it on Debian Sarge/Etch/Lenny with KDE version 3.3 and 3.5.
I am using my own Dovecot IMAP server. Mail is popped off the ISP mailbox and transferred to Dovecot. I access Dovecot from the local LAN, thru a WAN connection and trhu the Internet (about 1Mbps)
Sometimes when I connect thru the Internet, it might take some time before the message list is shown. But I have > 1GB mail and > 5000 messages in some folders.
I upgraded to Slackware 12` and now Kmail is working well.
Before I was using Slackware 11 and Kmail 1.9.7 and KDE 3.5.7 (the same KDE version in Slackware 12, I believe), and Kmail would download the message headers very slowly or not at all. Thunderbird, on the other hand, would have no problem at all. Strange.
