Imaging CF card - Grub question
Here is my situation.
Currently I have a Linux system running off just off a CF card. I want to take an image of that CF card and place it on another new CF card, so that the system can run just off that card. Now I can put the image on fine, however setting up grub on the new card so that it can boot off only that card is what I'm not so sure about.
The original CF card had grub install on the MBR. This didn't image over. Here is my question. To get grub on the new MBR what exactly needs to be done.
I have the new CF card in CF Card reader on a linux system. What needs to be passed to grub or grub-install, so that grub is install to the MBR on the CF card using only info from data on the imaged CF card. And doesn't effect grub on the local system.
One last thing, is this the correct way to do it.
grub -
grub> root(hdX,0)
grub> setup(hdX)
grub> quit
where hdX is the device containing the CF card.
Does this modify the grub on the local system, or just create a grub on the CF card, so that when used alone it is ok.
