[SOLVED] i3wm uk layout; how?

I went on http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:win...d_layout_in_i3
and found this beautiful answer to change my keyboard layout from US to GB. As soon as I type setxkbmap gb I get a UK layout. The guide talks about xinitrc but I don't use that so how can I get i3 to do it automatically?

I am running Arch and can't find this answer anywhere.

You can put the setxkbmap gb command at the end of your ~/.i3/config

I tried that before but I didn't use the & at the end and not at the beginning.
So, to confirm: I used sudo nano ~/.i3/config and then added the line exec setxkbmap gb &

The & at the end means that the command will be executed in the background not blocking any other processes.

Please note that if you're doing it in your own /home/ directory, you should not need to use the 'sudo' pre-command.
