i3wm - deluge is opening firefox instead of thunar
I just migrated from XFCE to i3wm and since I am happy with thunar I am still using it, when I click "Open folder" on firefox it goes fine (it opens thunar) but when I do that on deluge it opens firefox (it used to open thunar when I was using xfce). I did search google but I couldn't find something that helped me.

i3 is not responsible for filetype associations, so you will first have to look if there is an option in Deluge to specify the program to use.

not really sure how i3 works, but you can have a shot at xdg-open (available by default in Slackware).

Isn't xdg for the whole system? If so it should already be working, I guess.

Nope. By default xdg-utils do use settings from user's profile first then system ones as a fallback. This way you can f.E. customize your own file associations without touching system defaults.

For some reason, xdg broke under i3 but it was easy to fix it (just manually setting the default apps with xdg).

Sorry, I'm confused. Call me silly but I don't understand your original post. Where do you click "Open Folder". In Firefox or Thunar? I can't see such an option on either of them? Are you just talking about clicking on a directory icon in thunar? Then you try to click 'Open Folder' in Deluge and it opens Firefox instead of Thunar? That confuses me even further - Deluge is a bit torrent client - in what context would you 'Open Folder' in Deluge?
Bearing in mind that other posters responded to your post, it's just me having problems comprehending your question
On a separate note, how exactly did you fix it?

Deluge has an option to open the downloaded file folder For some reason, under i3 (it wasn't happening under xfce) it was opening firefox instead of thunar.

("abrir pasta" is open folder in english)
Fixed with this

For clarification sake i3 has absolutely nothing to do with mime/filetype associations. It may Xfce updates/sets them for you (update-desktop-database & update-mime-database come to mind).

Yes, that's what I assumed. Xfce just goes this extra mile and does it for the user.
