I want ALSA mixer to stay in taskbar

I've switched from KDE to XFCE (and am trying harder not to go back). I opened the ALSA sound mixer to adjust the volume, but can't make it stay in the taskbar like KMix. Is there no way?

Make sure you have xfce4-volumed installed, and that it runs at startup.

That didn't change anything. I discovered that I also need to do something else:

1. Right-click "Applications menu" on taskbar.
2. Panel--->Add New Items.
3. Select "Mixer."
4. Click Add.

It's not as convenient as the KDE volume icon--clicking on it won't let you simply adjust or mute the volume--but it's better than nothing. (You may see a horizontal volume bar--I can't figure out how to get it on purpose--but it's strictly for display and will disappear as soon as you move the mouse off the volume icon.)
