How to switch between Gnome and Text entry?


I am using Gnome desktop in Red Hat 9, and I want to switch to a text based (is it called command line in Linux?) enteries. How do I switch from one to the other?

Ctrl-+Alt+F[n]* will take you to a console

* where n is a number between 1 and 6 inclusive.

or you can start the program "Gnome Terminal" (I'll be in your menu somewhere, Usually in the Applications -> System menu) which allows you to use the command line within GNOME so that you can still use the mouse to copy & paste text etc.

Lastly, you can change the runlevel if you want to shut Gnome down completely & just have text consoles running.
