How to see ext 3 filesystem on WinXP?

I downloaded a program (Diskinternal reader)that can read ext3 on windows. I have an external HD that I plugged in.
The program sees the external HD but not all the files.

Is there a way to read or copy ext3 in windows.
All I want to do is retrieve files off the external HD and copy them to CD and I dont have a working linux system right now.

Also, would I be able to retrieve files that have permissions set to be only seen or modified by users on the previous linux system?

Thanks.

http://www.fs-driver.org/

That will probably be your best bet man. It will read ext3 also; it was built for ext2, but you just need to read the FAQ and go from there. Hope that helps.

@corp769 that's a really good link
http://www.fs-driver.org/

I think that it offers more than the link that I would've suggested

There is also a programme called Ext2Read which works very well. You can get it Here. No installation is required. Good Luck!

I tried, but I have no way of unzipping a zipped file. Winzip wont install and I tried another program called Jzip and that will not install either.

This program http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/ works but I cannot see the user directory I need to, I suspect its becuase I had the permissions set for that user in linux.
For example, The above mentioned program lets me see all the users folders, I can browse throgh one and see files, but when I try to open another it is blank.

I was able to get explore2fs working but all it shows is the drive and name, no files or directories.

The winzip free trial expired.... LOL.

The solution you provided has rw capabilities, I just read a little bit of it.
I think that mine allows you to retrieve but not w,I'm not sure of that as I only used it to access and copy.

Oh ok, it's cool.

And as far as winzip being expired, I thought XP has it's own zip utility? On my work computer, I can natively open zip files. Just open it with windows explorer and it should do the trick for you.

Is this storage or OS?

If it's an OS use boot disk and mount drive.

Try that Ext2Read...you will have to copy the file to your NTFS drive to access them. Also try 7zip...this will open just about anything and it's open source...
