If I remember correctly, "installing" the flash plugin just means copying two (?) files from the package tarball into ~/.mozilla/plugins (or wherever) and restarting mozilla. Strange that the installer can't manage this!

What are the contents of the package tarball? List them here and someone will be able to tell you which files to copy to your plugins directory.

If you look at the readme file, you'll see something like this:

Quote:
To manually install the plug-in for Linux, copy the following files to your browser's plugins folder:
  • libflashplayer.so
  • flashplayer.xpt
(The quote above is from Macromedia Flash Player Support Center, linked to from the Flash Player download page.)

The main plugins directory of Mozilla or Firefox is usually easy to find by searching for libnullplugin.so (eg. locate libnullplugin.so).
