You say you installed them, but then you say you're finding it difficult to compile and install them :/. Surely that's contradictory? :/

hi,
I am sorry for not being clear..

Actually i was trying to figure out how to play mp3 audio

Then i installed oss3993d-linux-x86-v26-regparm and i have done some nonsense and after installing that, one more problem started.
During this installation i have followed the instructions in the ReadMe and Install files

when i started to run soundcard detection in -->system settings an error messages "no sound cards detected" message is displayed.

Actually i am a novice. I have installed fedora 4 a week back.
I have been on Windows for years and i don't exactly know how to install packages and drivers on linux.

Today i have checked the /dev/ folder and found some files missing they are adsp,audio,dsp,mixer,sd6,sequencer,sequencer2,sd7, and snd folder

I request to tell me how to find the type of sound card i am using.

I found some name "SoundMax digital audio" after running dxdiag on XP.
hope u could help me

Thank u,
