How do you use the software watchdog?

Hey,

I am writing a program that i hope to leave running on an unattended box for months at a time. As such I want to incorporate a watchdog that will cause the box to reboot if a user input causes my program to hang.

I know that there is a software watchdog included in Slackware 9.0.0 at /dev/watchdog. What I don't know is how to use it. Any help would be appreciated.

watchdog

you need to enable and 'tickle' the watchdog. use a custom script/daemon or one like this: http://freshmeat.net/projects/watchdog/
