How do I start a program automatically when KDE starts up?
I want to start a program when KDE starts up automagically. For now the program is x0rfbserver, with a password. My girlfriend has installed Mandrake 9.2 and has even more questions about it than I do... if that's possible Anyway the best way to help her thru is to be able to vnc into her box and see what she's doing, except I can't get vnc to work. I can however vnc in to her machine if she's running the desktop sharing utility, x0rfbserver. I am aware that this is not a secure method, she doesn't work for the pentagon so it's ok. It's only temporary anyway. I tried adding an "x0rfbserver" line to rc.local (probably the wrong place), but that didn't work.
Any help will be appreciated. I don't want her to give up on Linux.. the alternative is Windows ME, which by far was the worst mistake they ever made. Personally I would rather be hanged, while on fire, than to be forced to use ME.

Hi, I don't understand what you talk a bout vnc, I'm not a Linux expert anyway.
However, as for the autostart with kde, I've done it. Just place a scrip file (with any name) in {yourhomefolder}/.kde/Autostart
It will be run automatically everytime you start kde.
Hope that helps.

Well it didn't work but I think it may be because of the x0rfbserver command itself. Does anyone how to make it start up automagically at KDE launch?

When you add the program you want to any script, make sure you include the whole command needed to run it program properly, with all the arguements.

This might be "shooting far over the target", but I just updated my MDK's packages, and read about xtoolwait. If I understood it right, then that would start programs, scripts, etc when the X starts - no matter are U useing gnome and then switch into KDE or some other manager.

Was this ever figured out ??? I want to do the exact same thing -- a VNC server running on my box so i can GUI control is remotely even after start up.
Right now i am SSH in and edit my cron jobs to start it in the next minute from logging in. A real pain but the only work around i have for now.

No, this has not been resolved that I am aware of. I just upgraded to Mandrake 10.1 last month and have been very busy at work so I haven't had much time to play with it. I do have some time thru the holidays so if anyone has any suggestions now would be a great time to voice them.
